Residential Life

First-year students live in dormitories within or adjacent to Harvard Yard.  Each dorm entryway is presided over by a member of the FDO team – a Proctor – who also lives in residence.  Proctors provide students with academic guidance, assist students in their personal and social transition to college life, and help enforce the College’s rules and regulations.  The freshman dorms are divided into four administrative Yards (Oak, Ivy, Crimson, and Elm), each overseen by a Resident Dean of Freshmen (RDF).  The RDFs are responsible for the health and well-being of students in their Yard.  In addition they are the chief academic officers for students in the first year, serving as academic advisers, tracking students’ academic progress, and sitting on the College’s Administrative Board.

Programs

The FDO sponsors numerous social, cultural, and educational programs throughout the year, and also offers financial support through First-Year FUNds for students to plan their own events.
